I never thought about the coasting/sweat issue. I like not having to pack an extra shirt in my bag to work. Good to know.

Clara
In my case, it was a "trauma". I had a pair of boots that ruined my stride for the short time I wore them, about two months. Pretty bad, dull pain that wouldn't go away. The first doc I saw suggested surgery (too quickly, I thought). I tried cortisone. I tried 6 months of PT. In the end, surgery is what I should have done first. I had synovitis & tendonitis in the peroneal tendon just below the ankle bone. So, they opened it up; scraped it out; bound it back up; and patched me up. It took six months for me to even try running. I wasn't active at the time, but it was still a long recovery. I'd have gone nuts if I was doing tri's then.

[as an aside, I was at Columbia, GSAPP '99]

Hey, that's certainly overcome-able! Better than sharp tendon pain. :)

Can I also ask... what was the problem that you needed fixed? Degeneration? A tear? Rupture?

Clara
big picture: surgery was very successful
micro picture: i should have continued stretching/strengthening systematically long after it felt better. i have a definite muscle imbalance that i'm still working on (it's small, but makes itself known with intense exercise)
Good luck!

Hi there. I think you posted something (somewhere else) mentioning that you had surgery on your peroneal tendon(s). Following 3 ankle sprains, I have terrible peroneal tendinosis and will probably have surgery soon.

Can you tell me if you had a good outcome? Seems like you did, based on your activity level. How long was the recovery?
